A Guide to Your Child?s Year



Language, Literacy and Communication Skills

Listen to enjoy and respond to a variety of stories.
Listen, respond to and recall songs and poems.
Ask questions and listen to responses through ?The Bear?.
Express opinions and make choices.
Understand that written symbols have sound and recognize sound and letter names

Creative Development

To recognize and name a variety of musical percussion instruments.
To respond to and enjoy music-making.
To use a range of materials to create.representational images.
To make choices about colour and medium.
To enjoy imaginative role play.

Mathematical Development

Recite numbers 0 to 50.
Begin to recognize numbers 0 to 10 10 to 20 and count correctly corresponding amounts of objects.
Use mathematical language of number in relevant contexts.
Recognize, money coins 1p 2p 5p 10p 20p 50p £1
To recall a range of number rhymes, songs and counting games.
To recognize a variety of 2D shapes

Personal & Social Development

To demonstrate care, respect and affection for other children.
To begin to concentrate for lengthening periods.
To acknowledge the need for help and seek help when needed.
To begin to take responsibility for personal hygiene.
To take turns, share and begin to exercise self-control



Knowledge and Understanding of the World

To understand the difference between old and new toys.
To classify how a variety of toys move.
Designing, making and evaluating toy models using junk materials.
Begin to find out about outcomes and decision making.

Physical Development

Move confidently, with increasing control and co-ordination.
Understand, appreciate and enjoy the differences between running, walking, skipping, jumping and hopping.
Use a variety of apparatus with increasing confidence.
Handle small tools and objects with increasing control and for appropriate purposes.
Weekly Needs

Book bags for Reading brought to school daily.
Reception fruit fund?collected on a half-termly basis.
Dinner money?Monday
Gym kit for P.E. Monday & Wednesday/Friday [subject to change]
Reading

Outside the classroom there are a slection of storybooks for you to share with your child. It is important that your child hears you reading a story everyday.
